LIVERMORE — One person was killed in a solo collision Thursday just off Interstate 580, the California Highway Patrol said.
Just after 2:20 p.m., CHP officers responded to westbound I-580 lanes east of the Isabel Avenue off-ramp.
When officers arrived, they found a 2001 Pontiac that had left the roadway on the right-hand side and traveled at least 50 feet down an embankment and through a chain-link fence before striking a tree.
The Pontiac’s driver, identified only as a 54-year-old man, was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene. The Alameda County Sheriff’s Office coroner’s crew was en route.
According to preliminary information, the driver did not appear to have worn a seat belt, and speed and unsafe turning appear to have been accident causes, a CHP officer said.
No preliminary information was immediately available about other possible factors, including alcohol or substances.
Anyone with information may call the CHP’s Dublin office at 925-828-0466.
