The San Jose Barracuda has halted all team activities, including its scheduled game Monday, after one player tested positive for COVID-19.
The Barracuda’s game with the Henderson Silver Knights was stopped after two periods Saturday after it was discovered that a San Jose player had tested positive.
After the test results became available, an AHL spokesman said both the Barracuda and the Silver Knights agreed to suspend the game “out of an abundance of caution in accordance with the AHL’s health and safety protocols.”
Both teams had come out of their locker rooms for the start of the third period but were soon sent back. The Barracuda stayed in Las Vegas overnight but it is unclear what their plans were for Sunday.
It also also unclear how many Barracuda players or staff members might be deemed unavailable because of the one positive test so far.
Several players who were with the Sharks earlier this week, either on the roster or taxi squad, were dressed for Saturday’s game, including forwards John Leonard, Fredrik Handemark and Jeffrey Viel, defenseman Brinson Pasichnuk and goalie Alexei Melnichuk.
Rudolfs Balcers, on a conditioning assignment after he was claimed off of waivers by the Sharks from Ottawa Senators earlier this month, was playing in his second straight game. He was on a line with Alex True and Jake McGrew.
